Collier County, FL — Collier County is making significant strides to support its veteran community with new housing and nursing care projects. The efforts aim to alleviate homelessness and provide long-term care for veterans in the area.
Warrior Homes of Collier Initiates Zulu Project
At the Hope & Honor Gala on November 7, 2025, Warrior Homes of Collier, a nonprofit focused on veteran homelessness, unveiled the Zulu Project. This initiative involves building a 10-unit apartment complex designed to house 20 veterans. The project is expected to begin shortly after the announcement, providing vital support for those needing housing and related services.
The Zulu Project is part of a broader mission by Warrior Homes, which had already commenced similar efforts in early 2025, providing homes for three veterans in Naples along with mental health and educational support.
State Veterans Nursing Home on the Horizon
In a separate development, Collier County dedicated nearly 24 acres of land in Golden Gate Estates on January 9, 2026, for a new state veterans nursing home. This facility will offer 120 skilled nursing beds, becoming the 10th such home in Florida under the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA).
The groundbreaking for the nursing home, which Suffolk Construction will build, is anticipated in July 2026, with the doors expected to open by late 2028 or early 2029. This long-awaited project aims to address the increasing demand for skilled nursing care among veterans in the region.
Addressing Local Veteran Needs
These projects are crucial in addressing the housing and health care needs of veterans in Collier County. They allow more veterans to stay closer to home, reducing the reliance on other facilities across the state. The nursing home’s construction is further bolstered by the county’s position at the top of the VA State Home Construction Grants priority list for state funding.
Collier County has also committed $30 million to the initial planning phases, illustrating its dedication to veteran care and wellbeing.
With these initiatives in motion, Collier County continues to build on its role as a supportive environment for veterans, offering both housing solutions and medical care through the growing network of facilities.
